I didn't know the Pilot had SH-AWD. Unless they changed it for this iteration, I believe it's still the cheaper and simpler VTM-4 system.

Even with a spare tire, it doesn't necessarily fit. On my car, the spare tire doesn't clear the factory front brake rotors, so if I have a flat in the front, I need to put the spare onto one of the rears, and then take the rear and swap it with the front. The 6 is more engaging and dynamic, but that also means it's less leisurely and detached. Those are qualities a wide swath of buyers are looking for, so even if they did drive the 6 they probably wouldn't like it.

Yeah, but that's kind of my point. The price isn't the reason why people aren't buying these cars, since in the real world they're undercutting the competitors by quite a bit. All the other stuff you mentioned is on point: size, practicality, historically unreliable brand, etc.
