Yeah, and while I do find a lot of this worthy of mockery, I can’t shake the feeling that some of it is more than anti-woke griftiness, it’s propaganda designed to recruit angry young white dudes to the far right.

Let’s be honest... this entire issue is toxic YouTube channels ginning up a controversy for views. This is basically Rush Limbaugh for white nerds.

I always think of Kevin Murphy talking about all of the angry fans who sent him hate mail when he took over the role of Tom Servo on Mystery Science Theater:

It’s been a trip watching angry nerds lose their minds over the sanctity of their 1980's long-form toy commercials.

Things can be sexualized even if they don’t give you, personally, a boner.

“if nobody finds the subject sexy then they cannot be sexualized.”

Wrong again.

No they are not. “Sexy” refers whether or not you find the character sexually attractive. “Sexualized” refers to how the movie presents the character as a sexual object first and foremost.

The writer did not say anything about Lola being less sexy in Space Jam 2. He talked about her being less sexualized. Those two words are not synonymous.

Sure, okay. “Cancelling.”

That or she ignored repeat warnings and decided to violate her terms of employment anyway.

#ConsequenceCulture is a bitch...

Just before we have some of the usual ‘Cancel culture gone mad!’ comments, no, she is not being ‘cancelled’, she is facing the consequences of using a public platform, the internet equivalent of shouting out in the middle of the street, to make questionable comments, and Disney would rather not have to deal with it.

How stupid do you have to be to post a video of yourself calling for politicians to be executed or filming yourself planning to invade the Capitol or perform terroristic activities and then keep your freaking location data on? This is what happens when you give Nazi Boomers a phone.

even recasting anders wouldn’t make me like him lol

Seems like really easy recast on Anders to me.

as an asexual queer person, holy heck does straightness and straight relationships come up all the time (and sex). In a lot of media it’s like 50% of a person’s character. Heck for female love interests it’s like 95% of their character.

Now playing

It feels like every time we have this sort of discussion, this argument of “the characters should be defined as who they are outside of their desires about banging first, and then bring that in!” is made...

Not Disney, but I binged both seasons of the Hollow over on Netflix on a whim last month. One of the three protagonists is revealed as gay at the beginning of season 2 - he has a Pride flag hanging up in his room, and there’s an awkward “when I said you’re not my type, what I meant is that I’m gay” conversation with
