You simply can't go wrong with cast iron. I used to have a huge collection, but my kids have absconded with everything but my 10" skillet, my 6" skillet and my giant griddle/grill. I will have my revenge!

Cast iron is the best. For everything. I love baking in 'em, searing steak on 'em, roasting beets in 'em.....

I just got a cast-iron dutch oven, where the lid is actually an upside-down skillet. for $35!! (Lodge, via Amazon, naturally.) It's perfect for baking bread with real crusty crust. Am planning to hold onto this bad boy forever.
