Oh, I agree! I meant "poking fun" in a good way - like just putting a bit of an ironic twist on something that was rather saccharine and over-sincere the first time. I definitely loved that moment.

Oh, I definitely agree with you on that. I just had this fantasy that she could finally stop playing the increasingly unrealistic catwoman type. I think Alex Kingston does a great job with what she's given, as does Matt Smith, but I would have liked to see her play the character with some maturity - something closer

The small-scale thing was great - I though that the space barn was really lovely. Much more affective than having EVERYUNIVERSEINEVERYTIMEVERNOREALLYTHISTIME at risk.

One thing I really, really liked was the way Ten's last line was used. To anyone saying that Moffat rewrote Davies, this is what I would point them to - he didn't change the line, instead suggesting that it was a good line and a fine way for this doctor to go, but he also made it more resigned and less

To be fair though, guesswork and fanwanking was mostly how I understood Amy and Rory.

On the one hand, she's obscenely overused…but on the other, I was really hoping to see her with an age-appropriate Doctor.

I love that they just disregarded the mystery completely - like, she and 11 just take it as fact that, yes, she hangs out with him through all of his regenerations and it's not some big dramatic thing anymore. She's actually starting to feel like a real girl!

Exactly! Really, he just did what Moffat (and, I guess, more generally the Moffat era) does best - take something we think we know and reconceptualize it to something more interesting or with more story potential. Really, this is a trend of all of the best stories since S5 (The Big Bang/Pandorica Opens, The Doctor's

If she had played that character when she was the companion, I might not have wanted to throw things at the TV every time she for-the-last-time-but-no-really came back. She was awesome.

Not sure if it was part of the larger fangasm or something on its own, but holy fuck that was cool.

I'm pretty sure the only logic that went into that was "it's really cool" and considering that it was, in fact, ridiculously cool, I'm completely fine with that.
