I had never heard of these jumbo-sized promotional cards, so I assumed that he made them himself. With that assumption and that they clearly let him compete, I was confused since I know that part of the nature of any trading card game is to collect unique, legitimate cards for competition, meaning if that were

I had never heard of these jumbo-sized promotional cards, I couldn’t think of anything other than him making them himself, which (I assume) would not be assumed to be legal.

Interesting detail that should have been included in the article! Thanks!

These are not fake cards. They’re official jumbo sized promo cards that are included with some boxed sets or as purchase bonuses from other related Pokemon products. The reason these are “technically” legal is that the TCG puts no constraint on the size of a card. And since they are officially printed TCG cards, just

Oddly enough, when I mentioned I like the depth that Turtles had to offer, someone actually commented calling “bullshit.” If anything, I think something great about the beat-em up genre is that it can be mindless mashing or a precise high-score combometer masterpiece. You play how you like.

Different people get different things out of games. That’s why difficulty settings can be so good, because they offer more options to enjoy a game in different ways.

YOU and your team are the ones that decided that this was the very best material to illustrate what the game is supposed to be at an absolutely pivotal moment in the life of the product.

If anyone comes away from that not understanding what the game is supposed to be, that’s a fundamental failure on the part of

There was a time when I would have given a shit about this news.

You can’t control your party members in FES.

Ive been telling my friends who like 5 this. A LOT of the charm of the world is cut out of p3p (understandable so they had to fit it on the psp). Dont know why they didnt just use FES

Dude, you’re just being intentionally disingenuous and argumentative. Do you actually think you’re making a point, or are you being absurdly hyperbolic for fun?

...sure... but it’s also a useful term of differentiation?

...mostly because you’re only speaking up about it now.

Yes, you conclude the article arguing that you might be wrong then spend the afternoon arguing against the arguments for why you might be wrong. And that’s your right, you don’t have to change your mind, but these arguments are all valid no matter how emotional you might think we’re being. In several of these comments

speaking as someone in the camp of ‘we should be rejecting these practices outright, here’s something to consider: by writing an article suggesting that people should play these games (without paying), do you believe that those encouraged by your article will end up actually not paying? or do you think some will

I just don’t understand how people playing the stuff that comes before all that bit, and then quit, are making a difference to those end-game whales?

The author concludes with a lukewarm it’s complicated and a metaphorical shrug emoji while saying that they might be wrong.  I am agreeing that they are wrong.

Casinos are regulated (whether you think that regulation is adequate or not), and have a higher barrier to entry. This stuff is the wild west, on a device you carry around with you 24/7. Shunning isn’t going to be an effective strategy as long as these predatory practices bring in more money from whales than they lose

This is a terrible take.

I like the game a lot
