""Nobody thinks just the quarterback wins the game," says biologist Gregory Wray"

Hahaha, his followers are so fanatical. You Dawkinites swear his shit don't stink. It's sad, really.

Within animals, any change that occurs within an organism that is not present in the genotype is not going to be passed on to the offspring. Full stop.

Needless to say, this is an excellent way to refuse to engage. Instead of responding to the questions that people are raising, simply claim that everything resides in the good book — if you'll only read it correctly.

At some point in the slow crawl of the advancement of Scientific Thought there is always s view that always seems "right",that just clicks with everything you know up to that point.

Actually, you could argue that another thing animals inherit is their habitat. And that's affecting their phenotypes as much as their genes.

Dawkins being a dick. There's a novel twist.

I think it has only survived because it's very simple and reductionist and gives people a sense of control over a chaotic world.

Did you read the article or just the title? ;)

I would say that the three step process of genetic accommodation makes a nice start to answering that question. But unfortunately, the problem is that there is no "functional unit" as such — it's more like a process. That's why people have such a hard time shifting from the selfish gene model to the accommodation

Personally I think that the selfish gene has only persisted as an idea because like lamarkism and social Darwinism was it makes for a great argument for those of the neliberal persuasion. See Nigel Ferguson and Matt Ridley.

"Scientists are closer to reality and rationality than others are."

I am really unsure of what is meant by this. This seems to be a rather bold assertions that one may not be able to back up with any evidence. Implicit bias, and our cultural norms don't merely fade away upon becoming a scientist. We should also

Well I guess it's nice to see exactly where god-awfully huge amounts of money are being poured directly into the military-industrial-complex.

This program is the biggest most destructive waste of money of all time.

So is there a reason that bacteria aren't officially labeled as part of our body? Or are they? Maybe our body is a combination of things, not just what comes purely out of our DNA.

Only sort of. I still have reservations about GMO's themselves. Mainly I think they're unnecessary, and a bit of a Pandora's Box, in the long run. Many people would debate that, but one thing I know for sure is that for-profit corporations shouldn't be in charge of opening that box.
