this reminds me of that part in The Handmaid’s Tale where Serena Joy is forced to throw out the books SHE WROTE on conservative values because the culture that SHE CREATED does not allow women to read. these women are literally creating their own oppressors.

He actually was right more often than he was wrong. I think Aristotle gets a bad rap today because everyone remembers when Galileo disproved the idea that heavy things fall faster than light things. Yes, it was wrong to accept Aristotle as the ultimate authority, but he wasn’t the cartoonish idiot that he often gets

I used to find flat earthers amusing, but as the forces of delusional ignorance and rampant idiocy have seized more and more power, it’s mostly just sad and scary.

I imagined Spiner using his guy from Night Court voice.

What scares me is, this rate-a-human Black Mirror/MeowMeowBeenz dystopia - where we’re all assigned some sort of inescapable rating that can fuck-up our lives - seems not only possible but highly probable (as another commenter pointed out, the Chinese government is trying to implement something similar). Jesus Christ. It’s like the tech bro philosophy is to develop only the dimmest awareness of an issue and then figure out a way to add an unnecessary, complicating layer to it, resulting in tons of negative externalities and then skimming money off of investors and people who are strong armed into using their app.

They’ll be here shortly to belittle this victory with cynicism.

My problem with it is that its not enough of anything. Theres not enough sci to be sci-fi, not enough funny to be comedy, not enough stakes to be action. It just feels like TNG fan-fiction.

It kind of depends. A thousand sitcom families hugging won’t make me as happy as the last scene of last season did.

Both Animal Crossing and The Sims have this really weird obsession with consumerism, though. Your progress in both games is largely dependent on what your character(s) buy. You can argue that that’s a reflection of society, but rarely so blatantly shown in entertainment other than in rap videos.

“She looks familiar,” I thought to myself when I saw Sugar Lyn Bear, so I looked her up. Holy crap, she’s Sugar from YTV! If you think her voice was high here, you should have heard her when she hosted The Zone.
