burning man got some solid rain in 2014 that resulted in similar conditions. i’d imagine the buzz this year is because all the influencer twats made a bajillion tik tok bitch posts about it.  (i also remember it raining quite a bit in 2000 and 2007-8...but again, no influencers and mostly chill people those years)

We were all laughing at the media coverage while having an absolute blast. The two rain days were among my favorite in 11 burns. The community is what this is all about, and everyone came together in incredible fashion. Oh - and the portos were just fine.

I’m so glad that this monster is going to jail. Any parent who abuses their children is a monster.  A parent who abuses their children for the pursuit of fame and fortune is a monster from the lowest pits of hell.  

Anybody who uses their kids for monetary gains, including all the youtube “families” are abusers in my book

Doesn’t surprise me. One of the most scarily deranged women I know is a Mommy Blogger, with the most enchanting, inspiring, gorgeous Mommy Blog I’ve ever seen. Meanwhile her husband has divorced her and is bitterly struggling to win full custody of their kid.

I know at least 1 person who thinks those kids deserved it because they said “children don’t deserve rights until they pay taxes”

Platforms benefit from dangerous practices so often. FB still loves to promote 5 minute crafts and related video types and those include stuff that could actually kill you

Celebrity culture is very incomprehensible, but influencer culture takes the cake. Why does anybody watch or listen to these people. You can’t claim transferred competence here, like this person is a good actor so they must be a good parent. The audience is complicit in these abusive stories too.

How come people want to protect the children from everything except their own parents?

Nice to see CPS actually being used for good and not weaponized to get revenge on people or punish working poor/single parents.

The Coogan Act needs to be revised and expanded to protect kids in this situation.
