No worries - as soon as people become aware of it, we have a chance of having any hope in Central America!

Oh, he’s joygasming at this very moment because the Supreme Court upheld the fucking travel ban.

My mother took the latter approach. She read me the books when I was 5 or 6, and used the bigoted bits as teachable moments. A history lesson of sorts. “This is how people thought/felt circa 1870/1880. This is the history behind that. This is what happened because of their ignorance. This is why their beliefs were

I think it is important to read and discuss the books with kids.  We shouldn’t sanitize history and pretend that everyone in America’s history was flawless and noble.  Kids should understand that people are complicated.  They should also understand that society can change and progress can be made.  You don’t have to

How about the Ramona series by Beverly Cleary?  I really enjoyed those growing up.

Personally, I think it is VERY important that kids see racism, sexism etc in action so they can understand what it looks like and why it’s wrong. I wouldn’t let a kid read these books totally unsupervised, but I wouldn’t rule them out entirely. I got a lot of my love of the outdoors and desire to do things like cook,

This is definitely a good move. I was obsessed her books as a child (I went from them to Harry Potter) but looking at those books with 21st century eyes makes it clear that we shouldn’t be holding them up as something to emulate.

And yet you have no problem working for a man who signed an executive order to protect “religious liberties” to allow so-called “Christians” to deny service to anyone they don’t like (also known as people of color and those who are LGBTQIA). Of all the lies that have spewed forth from your vile mouth, “I always do my

As a chef myself I almost hated him for giving the real world a window into our chaotic hellscape with that friggin book, there’s a context to it that no outsider will ever get, a perspective that you probably couldn’t wrap your brain around fully without actually being in that world. He was absolutely right, our

I am totally heartbroken. Bourdain wasn’t perfect but, there is no doubt his passion for food and travel inspired so many others to do those exact same things.

For some reason this suicide has left me feel much more depressed than others. I really loved him and his work. He was so talented and authentic seeming.

This is fucking me up so hard. I loved that guy. He was a big reason why I wanted to go to culinary school. And he sure as shit was right about that life. I didn’t last long but it was fun while I was in it.

Bourdain was an advocate for women. He also used his platform to give a voice to the largely brown and Spanish speaking staff who make up the backbones of our restaurant industry.

I know that many aren’t really fans here, but I loved Anthony Bourdain. I read his book many years ago and related to him so deeply. A person that also struggled with drugs and depression. This makes me really sad.

This is hitting me hard this morning and I’m still trying to come to grips. I’m currently doing the work to try to get a handle on my depression and it’s so fucking hard. And it’s expensive and time consuming and draining! But I’m hoping there is light on the other side. But when I hear about Anthony and Kate Spade,

Yep.

It is so incredibly dishonest that the writer left out that fact that police received MULTIPLE 911 calls that he was believed to be pointing a “gun” at people. Why neglect to mention that? I’m genuinely curious. Did you think it’s immaterial?

Attn: Normal People,

If there was funding available to help with adoption costs it’d be a more viable option for me. But my insurance covers fertility treatment, and I am having to save up to be able to afford future daycare, so if I spent my savings on adoption I wouldn’t be able to afford to actually ensure the child was cared for.
