I just made an inferior version of the same comment before realizing yours was in the gray. You’re right, TOH is a fantastic show, plus being on PBS there are no commercials in the middle.
Once I grew up I came to realize that the long-running “This Old House” is a far superior show to anything on HGTV. They spend one season per house, and take the time to show you what actually needs to be done to complete a project.
A lot of movies from that era - especially pornography - reveal how truly skinny-fat people were.
Once in a while they’ll have something decent like a hamburger, chicken sandwich, or ham croissant, but it’s maybe 2/10 days. Those used to be the type of daily offering we saw prior to the free for everyone program.
My level of interacting with the schools will likely increase next school year. We have a tiny district with two elementary schools (soon to be combined), one middle, and one high school. Our superintendent is retiring at the end of this year. Prior to the start of the current school year I publicly spoke out against…
No, it also includes milk and sides. Sides for any of the meals include either a veggie (carrot sticks, bell pepper slices), fruit (grapes, apple slices), and/or a cheese stick, yogurt, etc. I don’t want to sound ungrateful or unaware of my own privilege, but all kids deserve a better lunch than that.
I guess Garden Fresh doesn’t count as grocery store salsa even though I see it at every grocery store around? Or is Garden Fresh still a regional thing? Garden Fresh is hands down the best salsa available in grocery stores IMO.
I don’t think you’re going to see that pushed on to residential users anytime soon. Many homes that are set up for a gas stove don’t have a 220 hookup for an electric, running one would be costly for the consumer. No politician is going to pass a bill that includes that unless it includes a credit or tax rebate to…
The cheap coil electric stoves are awful. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the induction models, but they are of course more expensive which is why you’d probably never see one in a budget apartment. I say all of this as someone who uses a gas stove, but I’d like to switch to induction in the future.
Let me first say that I am 100% in favor of free lunch programs at all schools. Now is the part where my privilege shows; the quality of lunches at my children’s school is much lower with the free lunches than it was back when we had to pay. Prior to the free program there were two decent hot lunch options everyday.…
“They’ve successfully transferred the cost of replacing their mistake onto the public.”
“One maintenance task that a lot of people miss is making sure their windows are shaded during the day to keep the space inside as cool as possible. Using shades to reduce heat will lower your energy bills and also make your air conditioner last longer.”
I’d imagine this stuff is regional, I live in Michigan and have always seen it at the deli counter. I’ve never bought it because it just doesn’t look attractive to me at all. Dietz and Watson is good stuff.
Isn’t it a bit late on the tires? The last ones were made 19 years ago. While I realize a lot of RV tires don’t see many miles, no one should be driving on 20 year old tires. I have a car that doesn’t drive a whole lot of miles, and I usually see dry rot starting after ~5 years.
I really wish we would pass strict laws that treat distracted driving the same way we treat drunk driving. I realize there are challenges with proving it in court, but it’s clearly dangerous, as well as disruptive for other reasons.
Yeah, I didn’t want to be a total jerk and pick apart the whole article, but most of it was problematic.
I suspect that you are right, and that it’s the former 3/4 of the time. Still, I really don’t understand why more people don’t use cruise control. It’s been a standard feature an all but the most bare-bones cars for a very long time now, so I’m sure most of these people have vehicles equipped with it. Sure it isn’t…
“Like I mentioned above, a pilsner is really just a spicier and more hop-flavored lager. Pilsners are the way to go if you’re looking for the refreshing crispness of a lager, but with a little more flavor. The difference is unmistakable; think of the rich flavor of Old Style contrasted with, say, a Budweiser or…
Consistent speed on the highway. I do the driving on a lot of family road trips in the summer. Unless conditions don’t permit, I always use my cruise control. It never fails during a day’s drive that I’ll come up on someone going slower than me, get over to pass, then be unable to because they speed up. I’ll then get…
