I added a Denali brake light that I have programmed to strobe before it goes steady on my R1200RT. It is hard to miss, but it’s still not as important as the text message the driver behind me is reading, so I’ll still keep my escape path in mind.

Unfortunately he majority of the people I see that lane split are like the ones in the gif above, going way too damn fast for the conditions instead of only a couple of mph differential to the cars around the, or lane splitting when traffic is moving at the speed limit. It’s the idiots like that who ruin it for the…
Lane splitting at high speed is already illegal here. IIRC if you are going over 10 mph faster than traffic while lanesplitting the chp can ticket you, but it is at their discretion. Those that you see flying through traffic that worry you are already breaking the law.
Those folks look to be going WAY too hot through traffic. I’m not saying lane splitting makes you invincible!
I do this too when I ride. But! There are actually things you can install that do this for you!
this is just another reason to always wear all your gear! (and for the love of god, get yourself a gopro)
Water, awesome for hydration, lousy when someone holds your face under it.
A motorcycle safety campaign from the New York City Department of Transportation tells riders to “stay in middle of travel lane,” which would’ve ended poorly in this situation.
Dear Honda,
It’s because of “WHY’D YOU TURN” , even if it’s a little bit of “why’d you turn”.
My take: driver steered right to pass the Porsche, stomped on accelerator (gotta make the statement, am-i-rite?), lost grip and tried to correct the oversteer by turning left. Rest is what you see on the video.
Usually it has to do with one of the tires PSI being off from the other. Even as little as a 1.5PSI differential can cause a dramatic crash such as this! It’s wise to invest in a high quality and accurate digital pressure gauge so this never happens.
I suspect it’s because of differentials.
This is still a worthy project. Uber says “Your 175 data points don’t prove this is happening.” Their implication is that it is NOT happening. If Jalopnik then finds a thousand cases where it IS happening the conversation continues and gets a lot more interesting, while Uber’s claims - without supporting data - get a…
A grown man attacks a 13 year old boy and cops are like “Well I don’t see a crime here.”
If there are people who are making out on it does that mean that the people who aren’t don’t matter? If there’s a city that makes out then does that mean the city that’s getting screwed isn’t worth talking about? Putting aside the absolutely absurd fact that you feel the need to defend multi-billion dollar companies…
Everyone from the tuner generation will be the new “Harley riders” of the roadway........I’m starting to realize that now.
Thanks for writing this. Looking back on it, seeing Pedro on the show was the real lynchpin that started my climb from dyed in the wool conservative Republican (grew up with it, Catholic school indoctrination) to the extremely, um, passionate Progressive I am today. Prior to seeing Pedro, all I knew of homosexuals…
108,000 miles is high mileage to you??? Hahaha. And hate to break it to you, but every early 2000's car had a cheap flimsy interior to include Mercedes and Honda.
