Lee had gravitas that Longstreet didn't. Longstreet was too much of a man for hero worship - fallible, introspective, wracked with grief over the sudden deaths of his three kids to Cholera. There was a lot of crap in the first season, but goddamn did certain moments make up for it. The second season didn't have any of those redeeming scenes. Hell, that long take when the bikers rob the trap house is better than literally everything in the second season.
