Those podcasts are SO good.
I’m currently listening to the “You Must Remember This” podcast that covered the Manson murders. I can’t wait to watch the Lifetime movie now.
A friend of a friend insists on being referred to as “ahumanperson”. I kid you not. Try working that into conversation... “Have you heard from Jennifer?” “Yeah, she...uh, I mean..ahumanperson called me last night.”Since that’s incredibly awkward and difficult to remember, we now just use ahumanperson’s name...Jennifer…
I’m sorry but to say that if someone cares about human beings they need to join in protests that seem to have little purpose other than pissing off people is complete and utter BS.
Oookay, but the choice of the counter was directly connected to what they were protesting. They were protesting that they couldn’t sit *at that counter.* If MoA was responsible for police brutality, or had racist policies against black shoppers, or refused to employ black employees, then protesting there under the…
I don’t know the answer to the housing crisis, but moving to the midwest is at the bottom of the list.
I don’t think annoying when I think of Dr King.
It’s not really analogous though because they were protesting the lunch counters being segregated thus the lunch counters are kind of integral to the protest. I’m not aware that they’re protesting against the Mall. As a general rule civil rights protests on private property were aimed at the owners of the private…
Apples and oranges. They weren't disrupting anyone's lives by sitting there. Disrupting traffic at an airport is going to piss people off, not make them feel sorry for BLM. lol
Wouldn't you agree that these protests are getting meaningless? I think BLM needs to come up with another tactic. The protests have not advanced the cause.
Yes, but “annoying” alienates people who might otherwise be sympathetic to their cause. Contrary to popular belief, not all kinds of attention is good attention.
As much as I sympathize with BLM, they’re acting in ways that are counteractive to helping their cause. Yes, people should be aware of what happened to Jamar and the racial issues that exist in this state and in the cities. Yes, protesting is a valid form of relaying that message and showing how much it has affected…
BLM protesters are becoming this close to being as annoying as PETA protesters. And just as effective to their cause.
Now I don’t know which word to use, which puts me in quite a...pickle.
I think her point isn’t necessarily that the new canon for Hermione is now a black girl, but that with the limited description of Hermione (frizzy hair, looking brown, et al) that Rowling is okay with and encourages reimaginations of her characters in a diverse number of ways. I took her support more as “Hermione…
WHY THE FUCK ARE THESE NOT CALLED QUICKLES???
I have a friend whose surgical scar looks like a bow tie. When people ask her about it, she responds “It’s clearly a bowtie.” and no one has any clue what to say to that.
I will add that I give people one chance to drop it before I get kind of bitchy. If people don’t take the completely ridiculous story as a hint, and prod for more details, my next response is usually. “No, that’s not what happened. I was trying to find a polite way to deflect a completely inappropriate question”, or…
I had open-heart surgery as a toddler, 40 years ago. The scar is very prominent and I make no attempts to cover it. I’ve had it all my life so it’s not a traumatic thing for me, and I still will make up stuff like this sometimes because it’s not random person on the street’s business.
