Well, this one is written by men....

As a mom to a 3-year-old, I completely agree: motherhood is damn difficult, and also the most basic-ass job on the planet.

One of the author’s main points is that it’s not a very good movie. There are plenty of great female comic characters who are shallow and petty, just not in this particular movie.

You know what else this movie majorly left out? How the fuck women got here. Hint: it’s not a lady-related reason.

I love that when they write about guys being “bad”, the men:

You know what would have been a better premise?

i had similar feelings about “trainwreck” as in she is just a normal person, nothing she does is that trainwrecky. but i suppose it goes against societal perceived notions of what a marriageable woman is so... TRAINWRECK!

Thanks for the review, this was pretty much my impression from the trailer but a lot of my mom-friends were really excited about it. It’s very popular to say things like, “Oh I’m being such a bad mom right now, it’s 7 o’clock on a Friday so I’m putting on Frozen and pouring myself a glass of wine.” This is not “bad

Pretty much all of this. I saw it with my girlfriend, and while she was quite amused I spent most of the time annoyed. I think I may have chuckled at some point, but it wasn’t memorable enough to remember.

Agreed. And in places with actual people like this, I can’t tell you how big of a deal they make it feel like to be a working mom. You literally are considered a “bad mom” to these women if you aren’t volunteering and up in your kids’ shit every day.

It’s almost become a matter of opposites. You can be the strict mom who is a wonderful mom but not considered fun. Or you can be the fun mom with less rules but you’re a very bad mom. If the movie could make fun of that in a smart, funny way we’d probably love it. It sounds like this is the wrong movie. (I know there

Ewww I hate mommy-policing. My mom is the ultimate mommy-police. My sister will send out photos of the kids eating dinner in a group text and my mom will respond back with “ZOMG! The plate looks too hot, they will get 3rd degree burns. You should know better than to feed them hot food!”

It really sounds like this film is exactly what your would expect for a movie about motherhood written by men. There’s a lot to explore when it comes to being a ‘bad’ mom in a culture where mothering trends tend to keep women tied to their babies for longer and longer (extended breastfeeding, co-sleeping, etc), yet

“We’re sitting at home…racking our brains, and just watching our wives in this stressed-out life trying to be a great parent…so the inspiration was basically our wives.”

I think it’s become an okay choice for men, especially in “society,” but is still not very common. He looks nice in it, I like it on him though I’d make a few tweaks.

Since apparently nobody has gone there yet, I’ll put it down: same set up, skipping on cab fare, carrying narcotics, probably under influence, refusing to identify himself, running from cops, resisiting arrest by kicking and punching cops... But this time a black young man...

Cops would have called the coroner’s office on their way to the scene, to try and save time.

I love when it’s obvious someone has written most ( if not all ) of their own Wikipedia entry.
