According to this previous Deadspin post, Brown’s helmet is now 12 years old. It would have been 11 years old last year which means he may have gotten the same one year grace period. He just didn’t use it to find a new helmet that he could accept. The reporting has been unclear on this point.

I read that he’s estranged from his family because of his marriage. Shockingly, they don’t approve. I watched their wedding (don’t judge me), and his family was palpably unhappy and uncomfortable.
