There was a similar issue with U2 and their Achtung Baby sessions sometime in the 90s. My u2 buddy and I were obsessed with finding it, whispered about and rumored about here and there. Then one day we were at some mom-n-pop music store (remember those?) and there it was. Several discs, something like 13 hours of…
Frozen is kind of bittersweet for me. It’s the first movie our daughter really loved and was obsessed with, seeing it in theaters several times, playing and singing “Let it Go”, getting it on DVD for her birthday, and then finally that Christmas getting the Castle playset that was almost as big as she was: it’s the…
I really don’t buy Cardellini’s character snapping and burning Santa Monica to the ground like that.
I agree; that’s pretty much what’s going to happen. Based on where things left off, I’m predicting a hard sophomore slump for Season 2.
Episode 5--The one at the retreat--is pretty much what I wanted the whole show to be.
We just finished S1 Sunday night. I think the big revelation to me in the show was how good Christina Applegate is; it’s not that I’ve never found her bad or anything before, but she’s terrific in this, able to convey so much with just a glance.
Even if it ended there, it would have been ridiculous. “Well, I have to go now. There’s a PLAY I am attending tonight.” “Enjoy the PLAY, Mr. President!” It just kept piling on after that.
Unfortunately we’ll probably see soon enough.
I don’t remember, unfortunately. I want to say Predator 2 but that was a year and a half before Alien3 came out.
If they had kept Peggy out of the last episode altogether, and just had her final appearance be her strutting into the new office, cigarette dangling from her mouth, sunglasses on, Bert’s Tentacle Porn painting in tow, it would have been one of the great character sendoffs.
It’s shocking how terrible Jason Bourne is. It’s like a parody of Bourne movies.
My psyche would just not allow that kind of damage, that something I had been waiting 16 years for would suck. I held out a full year thinking “actually it’s pretty good actually!” and then when I watched it when it first hit rental and I couldn’t do it anymore and admitted that yes, it’s terrible. My son is hooked on…
We re-watched Lincoln last year and the whole time I was thinking “Wait, this movie is pretty good! Why do I remember not liking it?” Then we got to that ending. My wife actually laughed out loud at the shot of him in bed with the light of heaven shining down on him while everyone cried.
I remember right after the dual T-Rex attack having this sudden realization in the theater of “Wait, does this movie . . . suck? How is this possible?” And then it went on to prove me right for the rest of its run time.
Yeah, it’s not even the finale itself, it’s the whole season. I can’t believe they stuck them in that temple for a few episodes; that’s some early Season 3 shit right there.
That said, the other biggest is The Lost World: Jurassic Park. They got the creative team back, Spielberg was still directing, the best character from the first one came back, and yet it was lazy, sloppy, and slapdash.
Alot of my biggest disappointments can broadly be grouped under “be careful what you wish for”, where something you love dearly comes back for a sequel/new entry, only to be done in by behind-the-scenes chaos.
That’s a lovely memory and story. Thanks for sharing.
I’m sure you’ve been beside yourself for three days waiting for closure on that anecdote, but Soylent Green was right: it’s the week before finals. I meant to put that in the original post but it got deleted in an edit.
