“I don’t know if it’s age and a rejection of the newness that’s attached to youth,” Brett said when I called him after my Maggiano’s revelation, “but with each passing year I feel a greater appreciation of restaurants with menus that haven’t changed since 1982.”

Ok, anyone else get faked out by last week’s Flophouse?

Same. I always called it a Highbrow Three’s Company, in that it seemingly had the same plot about some kind of miscommunication spun endlessly out over and over again.

Look out America! This dog is bizz-ZAY!

That’s similar to my take: I’ve always said that they should have split TDK into two movies, with a Joker-dominated first movie, and then a Two Face-centric second installment released six months or a year after. End the first film basically with the Joker escaping and Rachel dying. I think the first half of TDK is

Yes, it’s on a cake, not a T Shirt, but eAT PANT really needs to be on here.

As a near lifelong Texan I’ve learned the hard way to never get too optimistic about a Democrat’s chance in this state. Our idiot governor, for instance, got played by Russian trolls by promoting Jade Helm conspiracies and doubled down on gun love after a school shooting in his own state, and he’s like 25 points ahead

Yeweh

I found it on Amazon Prime, and my daughter and I clipped through season 1 and all except the finale of season 2, then Amazon did one of their always delightful abrupt content yanks and then every episode was 1.99 and that was the end of that.

What a talent and what a horrible loss. He seemed to have a promising, long career ahead of him. His music soundscapes made both Arrival and Sicario, in my mind.

Was not expecting that time jump, although in hindsight it was much needed.

I want a Rhea Seehorn Reacts to Things series next. The way she’s able to convey such complex emotions flitting across her face is astounding. That hurt look when the lawyer called Jimmy a scumbag, then it instantly turning to icy resolve.

Guilty doesn’t mean guilty!

I grew up in a straight cut household, but I was always intrigued by the diagonal cut kids. I tried to get my mom to do it that way to no avail. And now that I’m a big boy and can do it however I want, I still don’t do diagonal.

I’ve been in Houston for these last three big flood events including Harvey and the number of people out in the floodwaters playing and swimming afterwards is astounding.

I went out with a mixed age group of coworkers for dinner a few years ago. After a nice meal starting with a cocktail, then some glasses of wine, the youngest coworker at the table (22-23 or thereabouts) stole off to the bar and bought the table a round of shots.

That’s pretty much my approach to Yelp or Google reviews too. It’s an aggregate; use the individual reviews to pick up worrisome trends (like, I dunno, three reviews mentioning cockroaches everywhere at a neighborhood Italian joint), but that’s it.

Everybody knows that you use Yelp when you insist that a restaurant that is clearly not designed to do so provide carry out to you, and you need to give them a 1 star review for not including enough ketchup packets or napkins.
