I scored presale tickets earlier this week for her Denver show this summer, and this album has been making love to my ears all morning. Thanks Janelle Monáe for being amazing.

By the way, I can’t be the only one who loved Monique’s runway look, am I? I mean, sure, it wasn’t as jaw-dropping as some of the others, but I thought it was pretty, shimmery, cute. Maybe I’m giving it more leeway having known she just made it? I dunno, I liked it.
Man, the remaining cast is so charming and talented that every single elimination from here on out is going to be painful. I do think the right queen went home, but it was still tough to say goodbye to such a talented sweetheart. I’m sure her career will take off, though.
I keep hearing that Yoshio Sakamoto hated the Prime Trilogy, and Other M was his attempt at countering the way those games handled Samus. That’s unfortunate if true, but the guy wrote Super, Fusion, and Zero Mission in addition to Other M, so he must have been having a bad year or something.
God yes, it takes sooooo long. And even as someone who was completely clueless the first time he played Blitzball, by the time I earned the Jupiter Sigil, my Blitzball team was so OP’ed, I was severely phoning in the match. Huge waste of time.
Finished my playthrough of Seiken Densetsu 3. What a gem of a game! I wonder why it was never released outside of Japan? Secret of Mana was a pretty big success for Square, was it not? Anyway, we really missed out. I’ll be playing it again soon with different characters, but gonna put it away for now.
I love Alba on Jane the Virgin. It’s uncanny how much she reminds me of my own abuela, right down to the mannerisms and facial expressions. I’m as liberal and as atheist as they come, but even I appreciate the portrayal of a conservative, religious character who’s nuanced and sympathetic.
You’re probably talking about Kevin. Not a caveman, but a beastman brawler character. Same guy I picked for my main character.
Which characters did you choose out of curiosity? I mean, that was so long ago I wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t remember.
I’m playing Seiken Densetsu 3 for the first time ever. I should have at least glanced at a FAQ before I started to at least pick a well-rounded team. I picked Kevin as my main character, with Lise and Duran backing me up. Of course I soon discovered that this particular makeup left me particularly lacking in the magic…
Has to be my favorite movie musical of all time, probably top 5 movies period. Just a great emotional payoff and message to the movie. I’m sure just about anyone can relate to the message of self-acceptance and not needing anyone else to be “complete,” but as a babygay who saw this movie right at the age I probably…
I’ve always been fond of the Sugababes’s cover of Adina Howard’s “Freak Like Me,” which is a mashup of Tubeway Army’s “Are Friends Electric?” in addition to being a cover. Just the way two seemingly disparate songs fit together perfectlyis really satisfying to hear.
So, I’ve got Cure and Blizzard, but...is Thundara too high-level for me to qualify?
This is one of my favorite YouTube channels in general. He makes a lot of really great videos explaining the music theory about why certain video game themes evoke certain emotions in us. I’m a little jealous he thought of this idea before I am, to be honest. I have a degree in music composition and music theory and…
Totally agree. I got the deluxe edition, so 16 songs that are all the same “flavor” is probably too much for a single sitting, but I honestly can’t pick a single song that I dislike.
I went from feeling kind of lukewarm about it to outright loving it with regards to Kylie Minogue’s “Golden.” Some may not appreciate the country-flavored pop direction this album has taken, but the songwriting is some of the best she’s had since “Impossible Princess.”
I started Altered Carbon on Netflix, and mostly enjoyed the first 3 episodes, but they really do feel too long. Every time I consider watching another episode I end up watching something else.
I looooove “Take a Bow,” but I would have placed it elsewhere on the album. After the chill electronica vibe of “Sanctuary” and “Bedtime Story,” it just feels too whiplashy to go back to the 90's R&B vibe.
This is so weird that this topic came up today, I literally had this discussion with a friend at a bar last night.
It’s definitely more like Impossible Princess or Body Language in that it’s her stepping outside of her comfort zone. With what a disappointment Kiss Me Once was, it’s a breath of fresh air.
