I suppose, I'm just don't think the stand would really do anything. And since we do live in a tipping-based system, I do like to have the option to tip more than 20% if I get really great service!

I'm with you there! It sounded like you were making an argument for not tipping, but I'm totally with you that it should just be worked into the price to avoid all the stress and confusion.

Of course not. Although I do tend to tip 20% regardless of the service I've received, because I think it's messed up that I somehow get to determine whether a person earns a living wage that day or not. I'm messing around on Jezebel at work today and I'm still getting paid, my server deserves the same leeway (ie,

I get why it's stressful, I really do, but it's not true that you "wouldn't be able to do anything at all". Professional haircuts are a luxury that many people can't afford, tip or no. I'm all for eliminating tipping, but that would make the haircut you got would simply cost $85 instead of 70.

I'm with her— the whole concept of tipping is just needlessly complicated and too easy to mess up, even the most well-intentioned people get confused about when and how much to tip. I would be so happy if the entire thing was just eliminated and prices were higher for all tipping-related things.

. . .also why does your 4 year old need a pedicure

Honestly my first reaction was “But you can’t get divorced! Your name could be Ellanora Baidoo-Blood-Dzraku!”

Haha that took me a solid 30 seconds to figure out wtf you were talking about. Thanks for the correction :P

Beyond the obvious reason that is a totally fucked up thing to say, I can't think of anything that would make their kid more likely to pursue a career as a heroin addict.

I doubt any of these people are self aware enough to recognize themselves in the stories. If anything, they might think "Hmm, this story kind of reminds me of the time I had that terrible server who wouldn't give me the popcorn I wanted".

Jackie didn’t request they not speak to the friends, she just said the friend didn’t want to participate and the author took her word for it instead of finding out herself.

She’s not referring to believing the victim, she’s talking about verifying quotes. If you’re going to direct quote something that a person said, you need to verify with them that they said it.

That and James Franco’s character was date raped on her show and it was portrayed as a big ol’ joke. And she has made multiple disgusting rape jokes on her Facebook page. Thank you for pointing all this out about her because I always feel insane when I try and talk about it on Jezebel and nobody has any interest

I don't get it why is a $300 extra long undershirt a great achievement. I don't get the fashions.

Also I buy steak and seafood and I make $40,000 a year, I’m guessing state representatives make a bit more than that?

I kinda really want to go to the multi-lingual church full of flamboyant gay people.

Do people say “I have black friends who don’t practice being black?” I am so confused by this argument.

I’m not a professional musician, but it was definitely one of the primary disappointments of my young life when I was a teenager when I realized that guys would NOT be more attracted to me and think it was super cool when I told them I played the guitar and was in a band. They just wanted a girl to like THEIR band,

At my last job at a small, theoretically POLITICALLY PROGRESSIVE nonprofit, women members of the team were frequently told they were too “combative” by our Executive Director. Often, male colleagues would literally get in screaming fights with him, but he’d brush it off and say “oh, we just had an issue to work out”.

Well, I’m guessing because *technically* the trip was social, not a work trip. That’s how a lot of this sexism continues to be upheld— all of the real networking and inner workings of the company happen during social time, which they don’t invite the women to. So the women aren’t being excluded at work, TECHNICALLY.
