I couldn’t agree with you more. She had an incredible presence. I grew up with Latino cousins (even though I am not Latino myself) and I was fortunate enough to know who Selena was prior to the J.Lo movie. She was wonderful.

Luckily those great singers got to live out long and lustrous careers. Selena had so many catchy singles at her young age. It’s great and danceable and catchy. Como La Flor is a beautiful song. Aside from that she was a great performer and dancer.

I wonder if you might be underrating her personal appeal. Selena was a solid singer, but in my opinion, the greatest factor making her a cross-cultural success was that she was incredibly likeable and charismatic. It was virtually impossible to see her singing and not FEEL her joy in it! She was irresistible.

It’s crazy to me that the piles of allegations against him (especially the detailed stories dug up through Jezebel/Gawker) haven’t reached a critical mass for people to start noticing.

I read two pages of his bullshit (that's enough) and now I'm of the opinion that while his family may be dysfunctional, his need to put everything in public, not just his and his wife's decision to be non-monogamous, is part of the problem.
