Weight loss as entertainment is a modern day freakshow. It’s bread and circuses. It’s disgusting.

As someone who just spent 15 months losing over 200 lbs, I feel you on that. People who’ve never been there really don’t get it.

To be fair to people who avoid junk food altogether; it’s much, much easier to eat zero chips than one. I don’t crave junk food simply because it’s out of my system. I am absolutely sure, based on previous experience, that if I went to McDonald’s this afternoon, I would want it again tomorrow. I don’t want it this

I always thought you were supposed to aim for losing 1-2 lbs/wk to lose weight in a healthy way. This show freaks me out.

That’s the problem exactly: They are having people lose weight so quickly that their bodies go into starvation mode. Not to mention the stress fractures and other injuries that are common on these shows as a result of having obese people exercise on such a ridiculous level right away, instead of having them start slow

My fitness group had a member that made it into the preliminary rounds for the show- she had to go to the ranch for interviews, workouts, etc....and then they narrowed the field down and did the whole thing over again. Producers wanted one girl to gain about 25 more pounds before the show so that her loss would be

I’ve never watched either. In theory I would root for all of the “contestants” because they’re there for their own well being. But everyone else involved?

I can’t imagine treating another human that way. Two of my cousins are personal trainers and one is a registered dietician and they capital H HATE this show because it treats people like live stock and racehorses that you get to cheer for or be disappointed in.

That first article made me want to cry. The whole thing feels so exploitive. As someone who has a lot of weight to lose (if you go by BMI over 200 lbs most likely) it breaks my heart to see people treated that way.

I refuse to watch that show but seriously, that is a super unhealthy and dangerous thing to do and should not be a tv show.

I never liked those shows. It always made me uncomfortable.

Worst Case Scenario: they’ll still have an easier time than folks with persistent weight problems, but with the added bonus of being able to say, “I did it and it’s not that hard!”

Anything too quick or stressful so often mucks things up.

Human’s are often delicate beasts underneath it all.

My personal trainer did that actually - a few times even to see which combination of diet and exercise worked best. I suspect that because he never stayed fat for very long and was physically active all his life it wouldn’t be quite as drastic in his situation as the Biggest Losers competitors.

I have always had an issue with this show. I hate the idea of such a personal thing like weight being turned into a game. Not only that but it never seemed particularly healthy to me. Losing that much weight that fast seems like a bad idea.

There’s new show where fitness professional gain weight and then take it off, so that they can “come from a place of understanding”. I’d be very curious to see if their metabolism resets.

I always thought it would be fun to cosplay Hero from Y-the Last Man comic.

Ah, ok, you dismissed the comment in which I, a rape victim, object to you telling me how I “get to” speak about things? Classy, Katmandu.
