Right? I hope the family hires a defending attorney at least smart enough to say something along the lines of “Assumption of risk, Your Honor — can we all go home now, please?”

Chilling effect on those who complain about police brutality and to beat the family to the punch when they rightly sue the city.
It’s a torpedo move. By filing the suit against LeGrier’s “estate” LeGrier’s family will have to expend whatever amount of time/energy/financial resources fighting it. It’s a civil suit so if LeGrier’s family fails to fight it Rialmo basically wins by default. As LeGrier’s family will most likely get a hefty wrongful…
I’m normally in favor of unions but the Chicago PD is making me seriously rethink this stance. I’m tired of my taxes going up constantly while the taxpayers are on the hook financially for police officers’ constant fuck-ups and yet the unions whine about pensions and shit. Stop killing innocent civilians and making…
this was also the same situation where the neighbor lady came out of her apartment after hearing gunshots, and they shot her on site as well, no? or was that ANOTHER Chicago P.D. whoopsie daisy?
I was just wondering what kind of attorney would take this case on. Now I know. -_-
An officer can’t sue for emotional distress or assault because it is a presumed part of the job. If a judge doesn’t throw this out it will be the biggest mess of lawsuits ever.
You need to reread your post, realize how you’re making this family’s tragedy about yourself, then stop doing it.
How evil do you have to be to kill a person’s son and then turn around and sue them? Evil is the absolute correct word.
Another lawyer, and I am doing the same thing. Perhaps it’s an insurance issue—homeowners policy?
Lawyer here, who, admittedly, does not practice personal injury or tort law. But, sitting here trying to think about what the possible purpose of this lawsuit could be. Was this 19 year old secretly loaded such that his “estate” has any money? Suing his “estate” is not the same as suing his parents (assuming they had…
Later, he will sue them for causing him emotional distress by making him realize he’s the kind of asshole who would sue the family of a man he shot in the back.
God, just seeing the name “Drew Peterson” makes the contents of my stomach rise just a little.
Don’t give Zimmerman any ideas.
someone should start a gofundme page. so disgusting that the family will have to pay to protect themselves from the guy who KILLED their son?!!! the only other hope is that he’s forced to pay their lawyers fees, cause if history repeats itself he’ll probably get a job promotion instead of fired or charged
Also? I just noticed. The attorney is the same guy who defended Drew Peterson.
That’s as brazen as asking for leniency for killing your parents because you’re an orphan.
this makes me so angry. And the poor neighbor, who is now dead simply because she answered the door. WTF. These days I’m more scared of the cops than scared of civilian perps.
