A quick search of the E39 M5 market, and it seems appropriately priced for this end of the market. Less miles and you’re in $40k+ territory.

My 2007 Impreza didn’t even make it to 60K miles before puking its headgaskets. My subie mechanic gave up trying to fix that POS after we spent $3K on all new gaskets, radiator, pump, timing belt because once the engine is out why not. Then it started throwing evap codes. I gave it away.

How the heck does a slide fall out of a plane??? Aren’t they are attached to the INSIDE of the doors?!

I am 39 years old

Millenials, some of which are now 40, only hold 4.8% of all wealth.

Fuel gauge works fine, it’s just always on empty.

A Honda that was rare when it was new, and it’s clean and stock. If I was a car collector/reseller I would have bought this as soon as I saw it.

Agreed. The 3 tries too hard to be cool. Just like Tesla’s owner.

TL;DR: Cost-benefit tradeoffs

That’s my issue. I’m not an EV hater or an EV evangelist. Also, I too have a GTI (Rabbit Edition).

Assuming one lives in a single family home or town home, how much does it cost to install a home charger? An EV without one doesn’t make much sense. I understand that its a lot unless you happen to have a free and open 240v circuit. So for me, its the price of the car plus the home charger.

For most people in the US, buying a vehicle is a big purchase they don’t do often. It doesn’t surprise me that people are hesitant to spend (often more) money on a vehicle that’s a new technology to them and will make them change their normal vehicle habits.

Along with what many are saying about prices, subscriptions, and such; I will say my biggest hurdle is still range. 300mi is the number I want but I want to be able to hit 300mi minimum when it is 115F as well as 0F.

Ex) Car and Driver says their real world test of the Ioniq 6 shows 260mi range. 100mi less than the

I’d also like to mention the trend with Manufacturers and dealerships:

Dealership: Orders everything in black, white, and gray. Pushes sales on the cars they have in stock.
Manufacturer: *arms up in the air* Hmmm, I guess people don’t want to buy colorful cars, let’s stop offering colorful cars.

Raises Hand. I DO! I DO! I DO!!!!!

This is pretty disingenuous. The base model Camry starts at 26k which is almost 20% less. And I’m not sure how the rebate works, but it’s not instant, is it? You still have to take out a loan for a 40k+ car, right?

We’ve pretty much run out of first adopters willing to make lifestyle changes for their car. That is all. It is all about the charging times now. Get it down to the same time to gas up your car, and then they’ll take off in gen pop.

Yeah...I buy cars with cash, but current EV’s only make sense to me as leases because emerging tech is going to crush their cost of ownership equation.  I can see hitting the well depreciated used market for a crap can Leaf for the kid.  But I am waiting for the right circumstance if real money is to be spent.

The problem with nearly every car mentioned here is the price.

They cost more and the tech isn’t good enough yet. It’s getting better and some people can justify them but for many there are still far too many inconveniences compared to what they currently own.
