I fear that “what car should I buy” is now just borrowing plots from old Top Gear shows. Honestly I think in 2020 the most American thing would be to just Uber from place to place.

“The New Formula E Car Looks Like It’s Straight Out Of Science Fiction”
Torch-you’re the man, but for the love of God can we please have just one week without a turn-signal or taillight story?!
“A V6 Toyota Camry would probably school most of the ‘fun’ cars from the 1960's and 1970's in just about every performance metric that matters.” ...except one: does the Camry make me want to go to the Toyota store and write a $30,000 check? No, it does not. (though in truth I don’t really want a GTO either...)
When the first batch came out they teased it as “under $10,000" They were never that cheap and they still sold like hotcakes. I think they’ve got the formula about right. Also: 20 year old me couldn’t afford one in 1989, and sadly, 60 year old me won’t be getting a (new) one either...
All of these are great, logical choices. WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE THIS WEEK???!!!!
Torch, I love you man, but soon enough we all will only see life’s taillights in the distance and realize there was more to life than taillights.
“Crashes” and “Almost Crashes” are the 2 search terms needed to find Cars and Coffee content online. For my own safety I will stick with Isetta concours events from now on.
Serious question: why haven’t more cars featured this, if it is so desirable? Would a Miata be better still with a gated shifter?
BaT still (very rarely) has a sale for a more “reasonable” amount. How about a companion story highlighting a few well-purchased cars, y’know just to give the rest of us hope...
The Elio is a fine metaphor for the past ten years. In previous decades we were told the flying car was “right around the corner” (or hovering over the corner, whatever). It was never gonna happen, but man you could dream. Our aspirations are now so low that all we can hope for is a three-wheeled car that doesn’t cost…
..and factor in the down time while you will be back to driving the Land Cruiser (that hopefully you haven’t traded in).
This is still my most looked forward to Jalop blog. Kudos for suggesting TWO cars for the price, as this is frequently the most interesting solution.
Pffft! anybody can make an interior out of screens-I’m waiting for the entire EXTERIOR to be a screen. Then I can go full invisibility cloak.
Agree. We have reached the age of the “generic” supercar look. Examples: New NSX, new Ford GT, Corvette C8, Recent Ferarris, etc. This car will still get everyone’s attention.
Right car, wrong price. Also: Should this blog now be called “Nice Price or Cheap Monkey?”
