"It isn't that complicated (and I like Moffat) the episode is completely linear and the script is never ponderous or witty."
"It isn't that complicated (and I like Moffat) the episode is completely linear and the script is never ponderous or witty."
"Well there is an at least an ideological difference between us there."
Well, I never said I read his "AMA". I read his blog that he linked to on Twitter. And yes, he said there were "massive changes from concept to production", where he talks about writing multiple drafts to end up with what we got on the screen. He didn't mention any "big notes" from anyone, and I am left wondering if…
See, that would be such a weird, left-field, random idea with no genuine build-up. I am thinking (as another commenter here pointed out) that it's honestly probably going to be something Gallifreyan or something we can find roots in once revealed, versus "it's the Devil". Honestly, hand over my heart(s), I'm still…
Bossk, I couldn't agree with you more. But I took those weeks to make my feelings clear on those two. This one deserves praise, so I have to focus on giving it what it deserves. The past is the past, and I can only judge MUMMY by itself.
Exactly! You can't judge a possible Companion by how much in-depth importance they get in their introductory episode.
Common scifi. Might have been culturally pulled from Red Dwarf at this point, since this is the generation who would do so. But then, all scifi has been building since Flash Gordon and HG Wells… ;)
And yet, all that been assumed, inferred, or "bet" by you and others does not change a single fact of my statement: "In this one, I don't think I felt his style or heard his voice once". Why? Because that's a fact. I never said Moffat had nothing to do with this. The writer himself said Moffat supplied the idea "Mummy…
True, I can't argue with you. I've always questioned the same "It's great!" gushing this season has received every week. But for this week, the only gripe I have is that there wasn't a plus-sign on that 'A'… ;)
Ha! That's all you, boss. I like them taller, I guess. Or maybe built like Freema… ;)
Sorry, right. I missed that bit. ;)
Or a "Wibbly wobbly" joke.
While you have a good point, this episode totally deserves it's top-grading…
Ah, but Moffat didn't write this one. Per Matheison's blog, he gave the writer the "mummy on the orient express in space" idea and everything else was the Jamie's. Notice it didn't say "and Steven Moffat" in the writing credits.
That's not what SHE said…..
Doesn't change the fact that she was a starring Companion after an episode that didn't make her important. Just saying, it could have easily worked. At least it would have rocked for me.
"But he would have been way more important if they were seriously going to make him a new companion"
Exactly. It's not that I dislike that kind of stuff on a whole. But, for me alone, this entire season has been spent either focused on exactly that, focused on giving Clara a fuller character via having a romantic relationship with Danny, and focused on mostly apologizing to the audience for Twelve not being Matt…
That's your call, and I respect it even if I disagree. For me, it was watching The Doctor work it out and BE "The Doctor". When they showcase just how brilliant he is and how that brilliance is a curse and blessing, and how he harnesses it, his timeless experience, his alien morality, and that ancient pain he carries…
