It is. Back when it first aired, I thought that was pretty effective. I hadn't been expecting to actually see the creepy things move.

I rewatched it a couple of years ago. Unlike Nicholson, Webber's Torrence goes through more of a transformation. But IMHO, Webber's performance just feels too light weight.

I felt like Nicholson's depiction of Torrence going in was too hostile and seething even before the family moved into the hotel.
He didn't need ghosts for to motivate him.
He was one stubbed toe away from murdering his wife and son.

I wish The Shining backwards forwards was available. From the snippets I've seen it has some cool surreal overlaps
