Well, technically, anyone who strictly adheres to any religion is by definition racist. It doesn’t mean they will be wearing a hood and burning crosses on someones lawn, but they are racist.

Maybe you should have your brain checked up on, old timer, because that comment you wrote was really, really fucking ignorant - and this is coming from an outspoken atheist.

There should be a law that says you can’t comment on the internet until you’re 30. Umtil then, you need to shut up and listen so you don’t write ignorant shit like what you just wrote.

It’s always revolting to see atheists turn into the EXACT same sorts of ignorant, nasty little bigots the moment religious people go under the microscope. Humanity just can’t fucking help itself than Otherize people, sadly.

It’s staggering, as a liberal atheist, how fucking ignorant and assholish liberal atheists are.

Right! And we should also take children from their parents and raise them in daycares until they’re old enough to make an informed choice regarding their parenting options.

The author believes in these things, and her views seem pretty nuanced.

Yeah fuck the church she is going to now that is tackling racism head on.

Internet commenters are cynical about religion and missed the entire part of the story where she found a more inclusive church. I’m shocked!

Dammit, you guys beat me to the punch. Seriously, if your going to a church then you are probably already either 1) At the lower end of the IQ spectrum in the U.S. or 2) Old and about to die.

Haha yeah, we’re not prejudice like those biggoted morons over there!
*Eyeroll*

You have a veryyyyyy odd view of church. I go to church. I am a super liberal female under 35 and have been going since I was 19. By myself. Not being forced by family or friends. I have gotten a lot of strength from my church community. Don’t paint such a broad stroke. It isn’t cute when it’s coming from liberals or

Seriously, if your going to a church then you are probably already either 1) At the lower end of the IQ spectrum in the U.S. or 2) Old and about to die.

And yet... people crave community and church can bring that - it’s abundantly clear that this is what the writer was looking for. It isn’t all “where am I going to go when I’m dead” and “how do I personally bring the second coming of Christ and impose my morals on others.” It’s history, cultural experience, community

Just as a friendly reminder, African Americans and Latinos are by far the most religious of our country’s larger ethnic groups (including white Americans). So you’re essentially saying that those two minority groups are almost entirely made up of low IQ individuals who are also quite racist. Which I disagree with, but

“Just Big Steps Or Don’t Even Bother”

So, just big steps or not even bother?

So... She shouldn’t try to be better, do better, know better? Ok.

The degree to which white people everywhere are unaware of the normalized racism all around us is one of the greatest obstacles to achieving meaningful and lasting progress. I grew up to liberal parents five miles from Stone Mountain, Ga., and I was basically an adult before it occurred to me how screwed up Stone
