I would have been sincerely disappointed if this wasn’t the first comment under this story. Thank you! Thank you!

Jolie,

... not always so simple to back out.

... she better learn how to take flack

Wow. That’s quite presumptuous. Also, they’re likely putting your business license in jeopardy if you don’t police that stuff. There’s a whole set of regulations on charities and charitable donations. We’re getting off topic, but daaaaamn!

Local businesses do get hit up a lot for donations and so-called in-kind “partnerships.”It can be unending. We are very judicious in the things we back. Sometimes it’s a matter of time, sometimes it’s a matter of money. Usually it’s a matter of both.

Assuming you’re not just trolling, why not encourage the budding entrepreneurs and give them lemonade and a table? I bet you could even get the local TV station to do a segment on how awesome you are to help the kids out.

No kidding, and not just CL.

Great post.

Thank you! Very thoughtful reply. We’re trying to look in the right places and ask the right questions. I’m giving a presentation to the local SME chapter this week in our office, and I’m hoping some of these questions come up to point us in a direction that brings some clarity (without hyperbole) to this.

I love you, Michael. (I mean your writing, of course, but I’m sure we’d get along quite well).

6-1 here, and I had a 2007 Miata daily driver until it became a mini-van / pickup truck sandwich on the interstate in 2015.

50 year old me in my WRX ... whatever makes you happy, dude.

I am far more likely to be annoyed at an asshole adult speaking loudly into their phone at dinner than at a child.

I miss grandma too.

Edit: Saw the Canada note later ... gotcha

Thinnnnnnnnnnnnner ....

That’s why news sources don’t get to decide what is and what isn’t news. Their news judgment is biased and reporters (good ones at least) are writing/reporting for their audience and trusting their audience to decide what is and isn’t important.
