It’s been a tough weekend to be a Pittsburgh sports fan. You have my sympathy.

I moved from PGH to the Bay Area 7 years ago and brought my Pirate fandom with me. I still burn when I remember my new West Coast friends cheering as Baumgarner & Co steamrolled the Pirates on their way to a W.S. victory.

Yeah, it’s a good metric of how awful Nutting is that, in conversations about worst owners in sports, he never comes up. He’s so bad no one even cares anymore.

It’s like they can’t put the pieces together when they have a real chance and they can’t even rebuild right. I don’t know if they are trying to get back to the days when less than 1000 fans showed up or if they are just completely incompetent or both.

Patiently, I supported the team during those 20 shit years, knowing we’d someday make it through. And then it happened, playoffs! Sure, we lost to the Cardinals in the first round but there was promise. That appearance was just enough for management to raise ticket prices for next year.

I have some cold pizza in the fridge and almost half a case of beer - should be enough to get J-Hay for my softball team.

About ten years ago I was a regular poster to Pirates message boards. The feeling at that time was that Huntington and the new majority ownership inherited a mess, but that they would spend on free agents when the time was right and they had a good young core.

Men, we need to take responsibility for our actions BEFORE we die so that things like this don’t happen. That’s why I just sat my wife and children down on the couch and told them that when Daddy leaves their mother in a few years for a piece of hot young blond ass, there is NO WAY I will leave them out of my will.

Unless the NFL told NBC there was a chance this was happening a few weeks ago, NBC is sorta fucked. Yeah they can fill prime time with re-runs, but they were planning on not doing a NYE show due to prime time football. Now they gotta scramble something together at the last minute. Quite the Xmas present from the NFL
