waste of money. for every test someone passes the state owes something like $32. florida or tennessee (or both?? or every state using this?) has ended up paying more for clean tests than they would have paid out in assistance anyway. drug test everyone to catch the .2%??? ugh.

He’s still an elected official, therefore likely considered a pillar of his community. He’s a landlord, thus privileged over his renter victims. He’s also a white guy. He is in every way the type of person cops usually defer to and believe. Privilege and power are more than just wealth.

IIRC, Florida instituted a ridiculously expensive welfare drug testing program, that caught something like 0.3%, and saved the state maybe $3400 at a cost of millions. It turned out that a relative of the governor was a high-ranking executive of the company administering the drug tests.

If that also included legislators, I would be a lot less upset by it.

The Federal NDP (New Democratic Party of Canada) is also putting forth a bill to the same means. You can read about it here.

Maybe there’s a tax for that too.
