Excuse me, but this is my Deadspin.
Excuse me, but this is my Deadspin.
Yeah, the sort of experiences which form the public personae of many successful entertainers were never part of Bruce’s life, as he himself has pointed out. His wealth and fame have insulated him from life’s sharp edges.
Isn’t like she’d suddenly gain a whole new personality because of her transition.
Exactly. Cait kept saying “now I’m free to be me, the real me”. Turns out the real Cait is just a more aggressively ignorant and intolerant version of Bruce.
See I expected him to be the same as well. The few episodes of the Kardashians I saw he came off as the sympathetic figure, stuck having to deal with his plastic, fame hungry family.
This is the correct assessment of IAC. Caitlyn is terrible, but the discussion of trans issues and sexism in general was fantastic. I learned a lot from Jenny Boylan and Kate Bornstein and the other women.
Given the power of Kris, it’s possible the two seasons was contractually obligated if they decided to pick up the pilot. Kris knows how to negotiate a contract, and I feel like she was definitely involved with Cait’s.
She was on Bill Simmons show this week touting the plusses of the Republican party. I spent most of the piece yelling at the TV calling her a moron. I understand that people can have different political beliefs, but at least state the party’s platform correctly!! Caitlyn supports an imaginary Republican party that…
Honestly? I think she did. Her transition was highly planned out, from her historic 20/20 interview, to the Vanity Fair shoot, to her show. If she did not expect to become our unofficial ambassador, she’s more ignorant than we all think.
Her political views have totally not transitioned and are still 100% entitled white male. Her whole “Imma be the GOP’s Trans Ambassador” was sadly myopic. Nnotice she (smartly!) didn’t go anywhere near the actual convention. Because honestly given the tone of Trump’s GOP, I doubt she’d get out without having been…
In my experience, the only reasons a network would continue to air a low-rated show are because 1) They’ve spent/committed all the money for it already and want to try and recoup some of it back 2) there are relationships in front of or behind the camera that carry more value than the short-term money loss from the…
Honest question - I watched both seasons of I Am Cait (I f$#king LOVE Jenny Boylan, btw) - did she actually WANT to be an ambassador for the trans community? I started to get the feeling that this was a role she fell/was forced into because she was so “visible,” rather than something she set out to do. I kinda feel…
The last sentence is perfection. I feel like she definitely thought the opposite and that’s why she always seems so confused to me like.... “why aren’t you treating me better”.....it’s not about the gender honey...it’s about the human and she kind of seems like a terrible one to me.
I actually watched the whole first season so I can say that she does, indeed, have a personality. A horrible one.
idk, the rest of the cast of IAC was excellent. I watched about 12/16 episodes because Jenny Boylan and Zackary Drucker kick ass.
Except she’s a hypocrite. Sure, she supports some obvious pro-lbgtq+ policies, but she ignores the fact that her desire to take money from the poor and give it to the rich directly hurts the very trans people she calls herself an ambassador for.
They had Kris come in and tell her about her politics that “no one wants to hear that shit”. Like all things Kartrashian, it seemed contrived. It was probably done to have someone finally say what the audience was thinking but it just made Caitlyn look worse than she already did & even less relatable, IMHO.
I don’t see much of a difference between Jenner saying “their anti-LGBTQ policy hurts me but I like their economic policy,” and some unemployed guy saying “their anti-welfare policy hurts me but I like their anti-immigrant policy.” YMMV.
Except she’s rich and powerful so whatever Trump or Cruz do to us little people, her money would act as a buffer for her. Plus, she’d get even richer ‘cause TAX CUTS!!
“Caitlyn just wasn’t relatable,”
