Also India. As they start continue to industrialize and modernize, the upward trend of pollution will continue with it. With something like 2.8 BILLION people between China and India, they’re the ones we really have to worry about going green. Not saying the rest of us don’t but, the quicker we do, the quicker we can

Because near term oil production will have absolutely no impact wahtsoever on climate change.

Not that the writer of this article is at fault for Kinja’s brokenness, I just wanted to point it out, yet again.

High gas prices only hurt the most vulnerable. They don’t hurt the Millionaires filling up their Canyoneros. They do hurt the Walmart employees filling up whatever shitbox they drive that barely gets them to work without breaking down.

Agreed there needs to be balance, but $3.20/gallon is exceedingly cheap, not sure it should ever be below that if we’re going to try and reduce consumption.

1) the dollar is weak, relative to recent history” The dollar is fine.

This issue is incredibly complex, and the Biden administration’s ham-fisted “OpEc NeEdS tO dRiLl MoRe!” is exactly illustrative of the lack of economic literacy inside those walls.

2) woowwweee inflation is a thing, color me shocked
3) We have oil in the US! Lots of oil!
4)

Yes, they do, usually by freeriding and producing more oil while the rest of OPEC clamps down on supply to take advantage of higher prices. But overall, if you can lower gas prices, it hurts Russia.

Nothing wishy washy about it.

Bribe EV buyers with someone else’s money. Italy is doing what every other government is doing:

I bought my 2020 Chevy Bolt with all the options this February for $21k before TTL. Didn’t need to rely on a tax rebate, either. You can absolutely get a sub-$30K electric car with 250 miles range nowadays.

GM LS-series.

Raph, why don’t you quit your job? It is obvious to a casual observer that you actually hate cars.
2nd gear: Highways are where we drive cars. We are car enthusiasts. We like better roads that don’t beat the shit out of our cars.
4th gear: If you have a problem with raking in huge chunks of cash from ICE vehicles, then

Until I can get an EV in the sub 30k range with >200mi of range. They will never truely go mainstream.

I’m saving a lot of money not going to Europe or South America, plus not getting a lake cottage. I figure I’m saving at least a hundred grand, let’s go buy a car!

Sounds like an acquaintance of mine. Has a perfectly fine albeit older truck but really wants a new Silverado trail boss because they're so badass. He's redoing his family's budget so he can find money for the new car payment. He literally said this, "Well everything is still closed so I'll just use the money we were

That’s the kind of person who went into the dealer for an oil change and drove away with a brand new car.

No no no, but you don’t understand, I reaaaally want it.

There are other electrics, younger, with fewer miles or both, available for less. Granted they’re Leafs, but the point stands. Essentially the same performance and range, seating capacity and arguably no worse looks, less money, less wear, less upkeep cost because Mercedes.

I’m just thinking of the old joke.
