I really like it! The fact that it’s a BMW underneath and will likely have Toyota reliability is even better.

Great article Matt! An EV conversion is my planned solution to the time when I can no longer get parts for my SR20 240.
????
Actually, the people that create idiotic generations consider me Gen Y, but myself and pretty much everyone I know have more in common with Gen X and Boomers.
Ah, good. Might have to subscribe so I can see some of that data before I go looking at my next car. Usually I just browse forums for awhile to look for potential issues, but it would be good to have some data from people who aren’t on car forums.
How much to spend on vehicles is something I actually spend quite a bit of time on. I have accurate True Cost to Own numbers for the last vehicles my wife and I have owned, along with very good estimates for the vehicles we own now, and I’ve done tons of estimates on all the (used) cars that I am interested in for the…
Agreed. All this touchscreen crap reeks of cost savings that they are passing on as new and better tech. I can’t stand them. BMW and Audi did it right with the control knobs for infotainment. One of the coolest features Porsche’s offer is the 5 gauge display and the rows and rows of buttons. Looks cool as hell and is…
I wish they would separate mechanical reliability from tech reliability. Though both are annoying issues, only one typically leaves you stranded. I’m most interested to know what Alfa Romeo’s mechanical reliability is looking like...
Wow. Didn’t realize it was ALL of them. Crashworthiness was a big factor in me continually trying to convince my (now) pregnant wife to upgrade from her Jeep Patriot since the birth of our first child last year (Also, it drove like poo).
I’ve been wondering if the type of snow makes a difference. We’ve had several tires the last few years here in CO, and the winter tires were marginally better than the standard touring all seasons, which were marginally better than the ultra high performance all seasons. Since I never let tire tread go below half for…
Gorgeous. Looks like a Kia version of the A7.
NP! This is proof the BMW V10 is reliable!
Seriously though, if it’s made it this long...
It’s time for the winter tire lie to go away. You probably don’t need them. All seasons are fantastic. And they have MORE grip in the situations where you drive the most and likely aren’t paying as much attention. Plus they aren’t weirdly soft and squishy (how in the heck anyone who likes to drive can stand to go a…
I don’t recall Sarah Jessica Parker in that movie?
All seasons are much better than they used to be. We had winter tires for 3 seasons on my wife’s vehicle but when they wore down to 50%, we dumped them and switched to just using all seasons. She didn’t notice much difference. When I drove it, I did notice a slight, but very minor improvement in traction (in snow, not…
To me, it’s obvious the BMW was the standout winner with the Jag very close behind and the Audi a very distant 3rd. The only thing that matters is how fun it is to drive in the snow and the Audi looked way too controlling.
Good test. I’m fairly disappointed in the Quattro after seeing this. I was hoping it would be at least close to as tail happy as the BMW in the snow. Big snows and traction control off is when my 335 is by far the funnest to drive. Also, uphill starts in snow/ice are kind of important where I live (though as long as…
Great topic. This thread gets at the reason why so many people continue buying/leasing new/newer vehicles. They’d rather spend more money on the new vehicle instead of risk the possibility of an expensive repair on an overall much cheaper older vehicle that they won’t truly ever know if it was absolutely needed or not.
This is kind of my dream car right now. How does it compare to a 3 series/M3, S5 sportback, Genesis G70, Porsche Macan, Golf R, Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo, or Mercedes E series wagon? (Ok, maybe just the new 3 series, M340i, comparison?)
Also, does the digital gauge stuff get annoying? Is ground clearance ever an…
How long does it take to pull your eyes away from the grille each time you go to drive it? Does it become palatable over time?
