The permanency of the internet helps with this. Plug the VIN into google and look at how it sat on the Copart lot. Not comprehensive but can lend additional clues to the damage severity.
Yes, this plus vehicle parts availability/rarity and point on the depreciation curve. Ex: Audi RS6 + deer hit, almost always = totaled car yet totally repairable in the garage and a trip to the paint shop.
