Are we twins, separated at birth?! This is exactly what I do with my monthly allotment of NYT clicks (which I notice keeps diminishing)... Gotta read me some Weddings and Celebrations!

The headline is confusing... Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas were together much longer than 3 years.
I agree that we have every right to comment and critique, but is there nothing else newsworthy happening today? I just counted, and in the last 24 hours, Jezebel has posted 7 articles about her. I just can't believe that there is nothing else happening in the world worth talking about.
Is this site sponsored by Miley or something? Are there a requisite number of Miley posts we need to hit today or what? Yes, everyone's talking about the VMA's and Miley - so in that regard, I'd consider her performance pretty successful since this is like the 4th post today to feature her.
Because the writers on Jezebel do not understand scientific inquiry. I comment on this almost every time they "write up" a scholarly article. I read the study and the methods. Their sample size was fine and the demographics were completely representative of the institution (assuming this was conducted at OSU) if…
Tracy Anderson is from my hometown (small town Indiana). She used to teach at the local dance studio. About 5-10 years ago there was the huge expose on what a fraud she was. The article was reprinted here: http://www.indianapolismonthly.com/features/story…
No, you're exactly right. The unusual concepts or phrases are used in context. It's like, Kathy is playing rugby and needs to run 2 miles... blah blah blah. The argument I see is that it is a detriment to kids unfamiliar with the concepts. But what you said is exactly what I think. You need to teach kids to skip…
THIS 100X. I posted something similar upstream, but you're much more concise. If you're going to make an argument that the ACT is sucky, use some evidence. And NOT a second hand website (that also posts no sources).
So the argument for testing biases in standardized testing is all over the place. One example, is that multiple choice tests favor students (males in particular) who are more impulsive, and on a whole men tend to perform better on multiple choice tests. Another example is that standardized tests are not culturally…
Look, there has certainly been a host of literature regarding standardized testing biases. And yes, there is lots of literature out there about white privilege and how white, affluent students are more likely to do well on the ACT/SAT, etc. But, to just continue to say "extremely biased" without citing ANY evidence…
I was thinking the same thing! I read the original article, and the owner gives virtually no evidence to support his claims besides the fact that he knows or assumes. He doesn't even survey the guests or ask why they're upset. This is just a complete BS story that he concocted in his head.
I was always so jealous of the laser backgrounds! As a kid that's all I ever wanted. But, my mom refused, and I had to get plain grey every year. The colors cost more, and my mom thought they were ugly... Heart = crushed.
Honestly, I have no idea. But I assume she has to pay the nanny out of something? My point was just that with all those kids, it would be really hard to have a normal job.
Re: Kate Gosselin. While I know the kids are school aged, it just might not be practical for her to be "current" nurse. Nurses normally work 12 hour shifts, so she'd have to arrange child care for them before and after school, and I can't imagine that's cheap. I'm not saying we should all feel sorry for her, but I…
I firmly believe that everyone has their own Stacey. I enjoyed middle and high school. I was never cool, but I had friends. And of course, I had the 'mean girls' who were bitches who would make bitchy comments and say bitchy things. Ya know...bitches. But, as a middle school teacher, sometimes kids are just…
Agreed. What we're reading here is Callie's interpretation of another article's interpretation of a yet to be published study. I HATE when Jez reports on second hand accounts of scientific studies. It's best to see the actual data, actual study, methodology, etc. before writing it up. As a researcher, so often…
They typically are. There's a lot of literature that supports the idea that self-report data (when collected accurately and validated) is fairly accurate.
I do not have 80 friends. I don't even know if I know 80 people. I would have to start going up to randoms that I work with. Oh hey Gladys, I'm getting married this weekend. Want to come? And be in it? And spend $1000 on a dress, hotel, transportation, gift? Ok cool!
So what you're telling me is that the Coach Barbie is a steal?! And I should immediately snatch up as many as possible from eBay to fund my children's future college funds?
To be fair, I think the entire collector's Barbie costs $95 (not just the Coach purse). So it's the Barbie, plus purse, plus accessories, plus clothes. Still crazy, but I'm guessing that's what a lot of the collector's edition Barbies cost.
