I agree it’s shady but consenting adults can have relationships with other consenting adults and blame should really be on the cheater. And we don’t know the situation. Many people having affairs outright lie or mislead the other person. Someone may believe the relationship is over or that they have an open marriage.

It always annoys me how these situations tend to involve blame thrown the way of the mistress (if it’s a cheating husband with a wife at home). A lot of the comments here are echoing that theme. And interestingly, when the wife cheats on her husband, blame is thrown her way rather than towards her lover.
