That happened to me with my 97 Hyundai Elantra. Similar debugging and I found the plastic plug that had been on the clutch pedal arm was now on my floor, cracked in half after 18+ years of use. I found a similar plug at the auto parts store, did some dremeling to fit the hole in the arm, and I was back in business.
