I guess that day my wife didn't kill me for tearing apart the Kubota starter on the table counts as a keeper?

In Hawaii (or any sub-tropic area), unless it's a managed environment, particle board and their ilk in any application is asking for a quick death in the persistent 50%+ humidity areas. I rip out and replace siding, underlayment, cabinet bits, etc. almost constantly because it just breaks down with time, even when…
Square drillbits for the win?
For water stones, a great way to check them after the glass/sandpaper is to dip the stone into a bucket of water, and then look at the reflected sheen across the face you just flattened. It'll be consistent and remain consistent as it drains off. (That doesn't mean it isn't changing, just consistent.) Great way to…
I did the sand/bend trick with a 35' run of 2" copper pipe going up a winding stair, once. Came out ok (not super great) but I'll ever do that again. Alone. With more enthusiasm than practical knowledge.
Yup. That's the ticket and the first thing I reach for when doing any electrical work.
Yeah, the eggs, they have some difference. My chickens (super orange) organic store bought (semi orange) and non organic (yellow) in one bowl. And for god's sake, why am I still grey?
I am with you. My goto hammer is the hickory handled Hart Decker, a lighter weight hammer but one that I can adapt up or down from its original design. In the meantime, I have multiple mauls, multiple ball peens, multiple framing, multiple fine finish and even some Japanese specialty framing hammers like toe-nailers…
Back in the day, dynamite was the thing. I'm reminded of the story of Dynamite Bill out of Sheboygan, WI in the 30's/40's clearing farmer's fields. That story didn't end well (at least for Bill.)
Kind of a horizontal old guys peg board outlines, isn't it? (Never understood that mode until I got over 30...I think it's age/efficiency related. (To whit: "Do I have time to fuck around looking for tools anymore? No? Then *organize*.)
The result: aok. The process: boner making. You really are a tease.
Danger is our middle names? Wait, am I quoting a movie or making a comment? I forget.
Tim - you aren't paying attention to your greys. Question: what are you looking for?
I totally understand the drive, here. Trust me. I've had less than savory neighbors before and it's hard to deal with without a little privacy.
Ah ha. Flarg. Why couldn't it just say "Robertson drive" instead of Universal Drive. If that's the problem, then when my bits did bite, those things chewed into whatever was there and I appreciated that. Will check that out. Thanks.
Honestly, I bought Spax for the first time for a project this year. I carry 3 brands of Phillips and their "universal" drive head was crap for holding onto the bit. Was I doing something wrong?
The beauty of the hand driven one is that the impact is coordinated with the downward blow, seating the bit hard and then delivering the impact. I use my impact driver for corroded screws all the time with good results, but a seized screw in machine equipment, I'd want to use the hand impact wrench myself.
That was fun to see. I know they model airflow in computers now, but I wonder if anyone out there in the field today can remark on how much can be modeled and how much needs to be tested like this? I know it's a shitton of processing and data to handle, but in the last 10 years we're at a whole new level of being…
Anyone else remember when a 1x12x8' common pine board wasn't $21 a board? (today's Home Depot price online.) Stuff like this used to be way more doable. Now, you're talking major furniture investment for DIY. Ikea, Macy's on sale, Home Depot Clearance or Costco (when they have it) are all way more [economical]…
Duluth Trading does really well for me, also. Carhartt of course. But then, I have some Land's End shirts that are holding up the same the previous two, so.. go figure.
