wow, literally defending the united states putting disproportionately black people in prison to do slave labor (for ‘committing crimes.’ i wonder if you have some internal justification for why the united states somehow magically has way more ‘criminals’ than everywhere else on earth).

i want to address your last point first: “Plenty of evidence my dude. Plenty.”

it’s not that i bury my head in the sand; it’s that there is a gigantic propaganda machine that feeds us constant anti-china rhetoric, and i just happen to seek information outside of that in order to be as informed as possible. so it is more like i was previously completely buried in the sand of us propaganda, and by

the thing about “whataboutism” is that it’s just a fancy way of saying “you are pointing out hypocrisy and I dont like it.

i think assuming that literally everything that happens in china that you happen to dislike is automatically because the cpc is being mean and evil, with no evidence, is not a good idea

dont forget that they have a.... CREDIT SCORE!!!!! (dun dun dunnnnn)

it’s difficult to stomach the idea of this

nobody really is worried about that is the thing. we’re worried about the very valid main point she is making

one thing to consider here is: what if this rate really is normal? if that is the case, then in fact the problem is even worse, and the fact that she’s speaking up is even more important

sounds like she has a history of standing up for herself. sounds good to me

please god bring this back. please

yeah maybe the n-gage would have made more sense than the dreamcast here

“man chess”? how dare you

it is true that women get shit on and probably have way fewer opportunities in chess due to stereotyping. so giving them an easier way to become titled players is some arguably-misguided attempt at addressing that problem, i guess. would not be how i would go about it personally.

women-only chess tournaments do make

i will say it is kind of pointless to bring that aspect up in the first place though lol

edit: ppl already covered what i wanted to say here

in general, “getting super famous and rich off of a sport/game/movie/book/etc” is going to cause problems and incentivize people to act poorly and exploit others. i also know some chess players have cheated in order to have a high rating that they could use to obtain chess students to make money, so it’s kind of like

many people (myself included) agree that magnus is not addressing the problem correctly.

there are some who take the extra step of characterizing him as a petty baby who is currently acting purely out of self-interest, can’t handle losing to someone younger than him, etc. it is this extra step of criticism that i take

i’m not saying that there is proof. i don’t believe magnus has handled this situation correctly. what i am saying is, he is acting out of genuine interest in solving a pervasive problem. we agree, though, that the manner in which he’s chosen to address the problem is not correct.
