I remember him well from Murphy Brown for obvious reasons but I also have fond memories of him in the film Mr Holland’s Opus. It was a small supporting role but he was great in it and held up well against William H Macy and Richard Dreyfuss.

Tell the story. He was fired from Cheers for making a joke on the radio that the hardest part about the job was kissing Rhea Pearlman. She heard it, and made sure he was fired, so his character was killed off screen.

His final Letterman guest spot had the perfect punchline. He shook Letterman’s hand and said “We’ll never see each other again, will we?” to which Letterman replied “No, we won’t.”

Well, at least he outlived the AV Club.

“We know that the past 24 hours have been bumpy”

Hey AVClub staffers and leaders and corporate overlords: Fuck you for ruining the site I adored above all others, by making it just like Gizmodo and Jezebel, and draining everything from it that made it so marvelous by replacing it instead by increasingly inane Newswires, Great Job Internets, lists and shit completely

I understand that you cannot go back to the way it was, but my suggestion to improve Kinja is to change Kinja as a whole so that it functions like the old site exactly.

I believe if one is a Gray, then anything you post is marked as “Pending Approval” until one of the quality folk stars it.

The instructions posted yesterday were not very clear. I managed to create this account by linking it to my Disqus account but this account apparently needs to also be linked to a FB, Twitter or Google account, which was not explained at all. As far as I can tell this account is now orphaned. I’ll lose access to it

That’s not the Kinja way. If you’re not commenting in the first couple hours, no one will see your post. It’s always been like that.

I appreciate that you guys are checking in with us. It’s a very frustrating transition and having you acknowledge that is helpful.

But we’re out of coffee.

da ba dee, da ba daa

Man, I’m trying, but this site is garbage.

As you’re well aware, it is technically possible to have an engaging conversation on Kinja, but that’s only due to the persistence of the users and not to the credit of the platform itself.

I’m still stuck in the greys, so this may not show up. However: I’ve been reading the AV Club since it was the print-only, “serious” part of the Onion. Like many long-time readers, I’m concerned that folding AVC into the remnants of the Gawkerverse will kill the unique perspective and voice that makes this place so

It might take a while, but I think you guys are going to learn to love Kinja. I’m referring to myself though, not the commenting system.

Any update on when AV Club non-Disqus legacy accounts (such as mine) can be claimed? I wasn’t sure if this was going to be a “sometime in the next couple of days” thing or a “whenever we figure out how to do that” timeline.

No, he says You Are ‘Website Blows Guys.’ It’s the answer to, Tell us what Korean action movie you like, and we’ll tell you what meaningless phrase describes you best.
