I mean…six years ago, the queen assaulted the next in line to the throne with a dagger in front of about as many witnesses, so there is some justification for thinking you could get away with calling the kids bastards.

I had a whole long comment written out, but it apparently got eaten by this hideous commenting system. Anyway, here’s the basics of it: ugh, this show.
This was a much more concise and well-put way of describing why Grey has never worked as a character for me (and why I roll my eyes every time Grey is on screen) than I could ever have articulated—well put.
Not to pile on (maybe a little), but—
Two thoughts, both centered around Adira: it seemed to me like the issue of adjectives was actually hit a little hard, in that it took up more than like one line, and maybe it’s just me, but it sure seems like Stamets has resting smug face. I don’t know if it was an attempt to come across as “I’m proud of you” or “all…
I realized something watching this episode—I think I might actually like Star Trek: Discovery, but not so much Star Trek: Burnham. Taking her off the shop and out of everything this episode really just kind of hammered it home—when she’s whispering and being a messiah, I can’t really roll my eyes enough. “You won’t…
Three plus years later, it still hurts to read this one. I miss, greatly, what the site used to be.
Those last few minutes really felt like the show was setting up an Enterprise spin-off, where we’d follow the adventures of Pike, Spock, and Number One.
Since nobody mentioned it (that I could see), and I think it deserves to be mentioned: Georgiou was on point this episode, and her initial interactions with Po were great. I think it may have been the first time the show made me chuckle at a scene that was intended to be humorous. So, well done, Discovery.
You know what’s fun, is when people in the future—and not even the distant future, just like a year and a half away—binge this series, see a “previously on” containing things that definitely weren’t “previously on”, and think they’ve missed an episode because the Short Treks have been largely forgotten about. Yes,…
It’s nice to see the commentariat being as positive as always. Anyway…for what it’s worth, this was an interesting read for someone who’s never seen an episode of the show, and maybe it’s just the nostalgia talking, but this kind of long form writing about older series reminds me of the Before Time. Honestly, I think…
I knew you were going to correct that. I must be a physic.
Amateur.
Right? Calling a B+ a “barely there, apathetic” review makes me wonder if this comment was from one of my students. B+ is good! I agree that this was probably the best episode of the series so far, at least to me, but geez, I’m also pretty sure that the show can do even better.
So, I just finished the first season, and while I admit I’m late to the party, I have been following along with the recaps here, and since I think my first-ever post on this site was on a TOS write up, I figure why not leave a comment here. (Even though most likely no one will ever see it, and I’m pretty sure my site…
I can honestly say nothing about this post has changed my opinion of this website in any way.
I’m starting to wonder if we saw that movie at the same theater, or if this was an issue with that movie in general, because I had the same experience with TWBB—muffled dialogue when there was dialogue (nobody noticed it until about half an hour in, when people actually starter talking—I think everyone in the theater…
So we’re using the internet definition of “most (whatever) in history” that means “in our pop culture awareness memory” and not “since the actual inception of the thing in question”. Got it.
I dunno…the biggest vibes I’m getting from this trailer (and everything else I’ve seen about this movie, honestly), are The Mummy (‘99). Which is fine—I guess The Mummy was Indiana Jones for that (my) generation, and every generation needs one, I just hope this movie can live up to it.
I don’t think that’s what they did with the Cats recording you linked—I think, like the version of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat they released, it was a special one-off—but yes, absolutely, film some recording of opening night casts. There are some I would literally give an arm and a leg to see/have…
