There’s nothing stopping me from ripping a CD or DVD or Blu Ray though, which would be just as easy to prevent due to the need of a computer to do so.

See, I see it as extremely relevant whether or not someone is actually being harmed. If someone else is enjoying something that they didn’t pay for but it’s not affecting sales one way or another, then it’s irrelevant.
