Can’t say anything towards the Pi, but I have run Ubuntu on many junk laptops (literally junk, as in I pulled them from the Electronic Recycle Bin at work) and none have had issues with sound. (2 cats, 2 dogs) Even one of our dogs that had cancer removed (along with the leg it was destroying) and an ACL replacement in that office. She is almost 2 years cancer free, and still tripod-ing around the house.
