I’d guess that the set of people who want to crowd into a stadium overlaps significantly with the set of people who don’t take this whole “deadly pandemic” thing seriously.

One of the problems might be that the shows they work on or the image that gets them work is something with a much more conservative fan base. They could be afraid of both losing their main drawing point as an actor and possibly even dealing with harassments from fans that feel “betrayed.”

While I enjoyed Page’s portrayal of the Duke, there also probably wasn’t much in the scripts for the character in season 2. I don’t know what the terms of the deal were when the books were optioned but I’m guessing there was an idea that it would be a Bridgerton sibling per season as the focus.

Think you hit the nail on the head with “too realistic”. In that sense it is difficult to watch at times, not because I think its bad (I really enjoy the show), but because it hits too close to home.
