EOE was a terrible season (let’s have a rando voted out pre-merge win the game and also stop pushing Rick Devens down my throat) and one of the worst things the show has ever done. I’m really sorry to hear they’re going to be sullying up what sounds like a great concept next season with it.
I also really, really hate…
You’re right about last season (Edge of Extinction) but way off about David vs. Goliath, which was overwhelmingly praised by the viewers (both casuals and online fans) as a great season, great cast, and great gameplay.
I saw the same thing. EoE basically broke the game for me. I’m hoping they at least tweaked it this time around. Because if they screw up this long wanted theme, there’s really no going back. It should be simple considering who is involved so there’s no need for gimmicks like EoE
It would not increase my respect for Jason Momoa if he responded, “Yes, we ate her last night”, but it WOULD increase my enjoyment of him.
I watched this with my wife and 10 year old daughter (Survivor is her favorite show - we’ve watched a ton of seasons on Prime. She’s Team Parvati).
It’s not the best possible outcome, certainly. But to be honest I’m surprised they even went as far as they did instead of keeping their heads buried in the sand.
Gah that was awful to watch and I agree the production/editing should have done so much differently.
So yeah, the episode featured no outrage and no cries of racism resulting from the dumb comment, but rather an actual discussion between the two people regarding why calling the buff a durag was insulting, followed by apologies and handshakes, and no Jeff Probst proclaiming “that’s how you play this game”.
It’s a good thing they weren’t Game of Thrones fans or those questions might have been uncomfortable.
While I’m lapsed Survivor fan, man it sucks to read this. In a certain way, I can guess their defense on not intervening as they cannot show the contestants the footage of each others actions, but this just crosses a line and does some really sketchy things.
No, it’s not outright racist but there was a microagression in the situation when it happened. The issue was that Jack (white guy) only referred to Jamal’s buff as a do-rag because Jamal was black.
They could intervene when they see men touching women without their consent.
The only one outraged is you my guy. Jack himself acknowledged it was wrong and both guys resolved it with a great conversation. Hell Jack is still a fan favorite. I’m sorry you’re that fragile though
The word itself isn’t racist, but no one on the show has ever called it anything other than a buff so it seemed like Jack only called it that because Jamal is black
The show demands competitors who put winning the game as the only thing that matters. So of course could have a situation where they’re thinking about whether reporting harassment, or inventing harassment ( like Missy and Elizabeth), is the right play to help them win. I don’t see any way for the producers to avoid…
Wouldn’t be the first time Mark Burnett and his team covered for a racist, sexist pile of shit.
