Someone in a high-rise in KC caused a fire on New Year’s Day burning black-eyed peas.

I volunteered working phones for an election one time. The phone bank was at a dreaded “trial lawyer’s” office. There were framed newspaper accounts all over the walls of verdicts won over fiery dishwashers. I never leave with the dishwasher running anymore!

I never leave my house with the dryer running, because of this. Or the dishwasher or coffeepot because they’re frequent culprits. Never heard of a crock pot causing a fire though.

It’s totally true. Dryer lint is highly combustible and dryers have burned down many houses. Clean out the chute that vents the dryer to the outside, or have it cleaned, because it can clog with highly combustible lint! Google dryer lint fires.

Another hazard (that I did not know about until it caused a fire in my

I know! During Hurricane Katrina, people were dying for lack of water and the more fortunate (white suburban) people wouldn’t let them across the bridges for fear of “looting.” They were dying for lack of water to drink! Could people not see that? And yet Jesus said that whoever gives a cup of water in His name would

The woman next door to me dug her car out of the snow when she was 9 months pregnant!

Ten bucks says this is what he was thinking: “I’m never going to see this woman again, so it has to be tonight, or I’ve wasted this entire evening. If I don’t get sumpin sumpin tonight I spent X number of hours and X number of dollars for nothing.” Ten more bucks says this is what she was thinking: “If I slow him down

This is spot on.

And the way to teach them to care about their intended partner’s comfort level, is for the intended partner to say “That turns me off” and leave.

Yes...I wish there would be more discussion of this aspect. Many’s the time I would’ve been in the mood and/or stayed in the mood had the dude not gotten so damn forceful so damn quickly. A real mood-killer only when I was younger I didn’t know how to say what a mood-killer it was and make it stick. Not sure that

The difference is that you cared about her. A missing link in this unfortunate encounter under discussion, and many like it, is that the rushing/pushy/boorish/ dudes don’t care about the woman in the scenario. There needs to be more acknowledgement of the times when the pushy person doesn’t care about the push-ee and

This very scenario was dealt with in Cosmo and consciousness-raising groups in the 70's. The guy you have agreed to sleep with but suddenly he jackhammers/is too rough/throws you down in the bushes on the way to your place etc. The latter scenario was indeed declared sexual assault in the second-wave

In my day, during the 70's sexual revolution, for sure there was a lot of pressuring but also there was “That turns me off.” The person who was feeling rushed/pressured/treated like a piece of meat could say “That turns me off” and leave. Maybe today’s daters aren’t being modeled “That turns me off” scenes where the

Kids these days. It’s Captain Kangaroo!

Ha ha that is spot on!

Good point

Hmmm

Katie Roiphe is not a boomer. She’s an X-er.

Exactly. The second-wavers are at least 65 or 70 by now.
