Right lol tv’s lasted forever but technology changed. You can’t get HDR out of a 2 year old tv... but it’s your choice to go out and buy one to replace your current. Every device technically has planned obselescence... if you want technology to move in any way.

My iPhone still works fine. I don’t need updates to keep it going. In fact I think my 5 is a bit behind already.

I’m exactly that person. Only just updated from a 5, and that was because the charger pins no longer made contact and I was due for an upgrade anyway. It did run fine for my limited use (as you said, texts and calls) and I’m sure it would have kept on doing that just fine past the update threshhold, in much the same…

The iPhone 5 came out in 2012 and shipped with IOS6, IIRC. It’s a little dramatic to call five years of support across five major operating system versions planned obsolescence.

It won’t be obsolete, it just won’t be able to be upgraded. It’s not like they are changing the telephone protocol or something like that. The phones will continue to work.
