What you’re failing to understand is that it doesn’t matter what the industry thinks here. Everyone on att with a compatible phone will get faster data speeds. They’ll be happy, regardless of either or not it’s the “next generation” of LTE, or simply the “next iteration”. You’re arguing semantics here.

1. If a small tweak doubles the speed, I’d say it’s fair to call it the next generation of LTE.

No, I totally agree with you. So it’s the next generation of LTE, which is a wireless communication standard.

Wow. So you’re admitting that you made this up. Okay, whatever works. When LTE rolled out they didn’t charge those customer more than customers on 3G. So historically speaking, there’s no reason to believe they’ll charge more for this service. And to think that they would charge DOUBLE (assuming there’s any upcharge

Where did you see that they’re doubling the cost for those that use this service?

Well you said:

They’re being misleading for sure, but they’re not calling it 5g... and in the end, no customers are being harmed.

They’re advertising increased speeds. If they deliver on that promise, what’s the problem?

Yup. We need regulation because millions of people are going to go buy a $700 phone they had no previous intent on purchasing just because the internet will be faster.

But it’s the next generation of 4g...

You’re all overreacting. There is no negative impact to customers, and if it’s 20% faster, does it matter to a customer if it’s “real” 5g or not? Nope! “My internet connection is suddenly faster! Yay!!!”

Labeling HSPA+ as 4g probably had more to do with the fact that att had recently lost their iPhone monopoly (Verizon picked up the 4 in January) and att wanted a differentiator on the upcoming 4s. So an att 4s would display “4G” while a Verizon model would only display 3G

Yup. Not sure why everyone who writes for this site is so bitter about people earning money. Profit is not a bad word. Money is not a bad word. Just because someone is more successful than you doesn’t mean they’ve done anything wrong.

Yeah, my apologies if I wasn’t clear. The only analogy intended was around the use of racist statements that the “writer” of this post thinks are okay.

Well that and spreading CEO salaries to employees would result in a virtually nonexistent pay raise for everyone.

I think you missed my point. I wasn’t trying to compare the NBA and the tech sector in any way. I was simply pointing out that the comment about “white dudes” in tech was disgusting.

Seems like a pretty ignorant position. Why would the absense of a CEO allow others to be employed or earn more money?

Absolutely.

There’s a lot wrong here. First, the use of “same thinking white dudes” is fucking disgusting. I wonder how a claim that “basketball is getting boring because of all those black guys playing” would go over. For the record, I am very black. And hate basketball.
