Under what circumstances would someone only be able to work at McDonald’s (or equilivant)?

That’s fair, for some there are forces outside of their control that put them in this position.

They were your words, not mine. “Paying minimum wage... ...tells people you don’t think their labor is worth more”

I do find it humorous that you think someone wouldn’t choose to stay in a low paying job if they had other opportunities. Since that’s exactly what every McDonald’s employee is doing each day they show up....

I’m not against paying people a bit more. It’s fine by me. But this whole attitude that we have to is absurd. What is so wrong with expecting people to take a little responsibility for their situation? If you’re in your 30s, have kids, and work at mcdonalds, you made some bad decisions in life. You have the

I’m guessing you’ve never managed people in a large organization. It is extremely difficult to term someone for something as subjective as laziness. Ideally, yes, they should be fired. But it’s just not that easy.

You’ve repeatedly made statements and then somehow forgotten them when their logic is challenged.

Easier said than done. If someone got hired at $10, worked as hard as they could and did a great job and over the years got raises/promotions up to $15, do you really not understand why they might be frustrated that someone who got hired yesterday is getting the same pay that they worked hard to earn?

Which (based on your statement) they still would be. They would be making minimum wage.

Some people don’t like to leave their comfort zone. Nothing wrong with that.

Good point. People can work their way up within the company! So rather than increasing minimum wage, those earning it should just work toward getting promoted and leave minimum wage behind them.

You said give shareholders less of the profits. How do you think profits are distributed to shareholders?

She chose not to. But at no time did she expect her salary to double just because she wasn’t making enough money. That’s the issue at hand here

I am. Can’t afford kids? Don’t have kids. Can’t afford a boat? Don’t buy a boat.

It certainly does not fix the problem mentioned of people being sad that their employers are paying them as little as is legally allowed.

You might want to look in the mirror on that one.

I don’t think it’s a matter of people already making $15 being “offended”. But surely you agree that people with more job responsibilities should be paid more than those with less? So if I’m a manager at mcdonalds making $15, why would I continue to bother with the additional stress of that job when I could just step

It wouldn’t work in every case, but in many it would. There is no one fix for everything.

If minimum wage doubles, it’s still the minimum wage. It doesn’t fix the problem you mentioned.

I’m not suggesting everyone working at mcdonalds should try to do something else. Im suggesting that doubling their pay because they just want more money is absurd.
