Buying is definitely the way to go to save cash over the long run. Some people prefer to rent them and have the company be responsible for supporting it, not that they need any support, but if something does go wrong, you can call someone to come fix it.

That is a BS answer from Charter. States and cities have franchise regulations that prevents multiple cable providers. It is very possible that cable companies like it this way, but it is hardly what your service representative claims.
